Luca Devinu, the dark lines
Luca is an Italian artist from Sardinia, a small island in the Mediterranean sea. This place has ancient traditions and cultures preserved from other civilizations because of its insularity. These cultures are a big source of inspiration for Luca for his commissioned or personal works. Another big influence on his work are the alchemists like Giovanni Pontano (XVI) for their visions about the alchemy and of course some major artists like Leonardo Da Vinci. The Black Metal (music style) is always present during his creation process and it's for him a perfect mix with his pictorial inspirations.
Many of his clients are in the music industry. Luca needs to listen the music material before to start anything. The music is for him an engine which permits him to find ideas and work.
From early Blues, to Jazz, to Progressive Rock from the 70ies and of course to Black Metal, his music taste is wide, but is mostly close to this extreme style which the Black Metal and which he knows very well. One of his favourite works is the album cover "watershed between earth and firmament" by The Clearing Path (Italian one man band). This album really possessed him as he listened it when he created the artwork. Ent666 (Canada), Drought (Italy), Le Seul Élément (France), Idolatry (Canada) are some other bands he works for. He also did a promotional tour poster for the historical death metal band Possessed.
Usually he works with Rapidographs and sometimes pencil or non conventional equipment. He loves dots, linework and old technics to create a timeless work, maybe from Medieval times...
